Where is the light? The brown light from the one bulb in the one lamp, angled over there into a strange corner that on second glance might be correctly angled, but definitely made an irregular first impression. The wall should be that color they call institutional green. The color of the cafeteria at the LA County hospital. You know, the free hospital. The curtains made from cut and pasted dreams of other people’s grandmother’s tablecloths
. This perfect room of mine has a great hole in the plaster wall running alongside the bed. No, not a black pit, grasping at your tarantula fears or even an echoey bat cave, just a crumbling bomb impression laid on display. A fine piece of art, flashing the defiant ribcage of boards that support the drywall. Ok, so now I’ve got my walls, and my lamp-wait a second, someone’s knocking.
